LabSpace Mentors are a group of students that has been participating in STEM activities for quite a while.  They have a love for programming, robotics and other tech and want to share with others.  Our group ranges from middle school through high school.  If you’d like to join us, please contact [email protected] before registering for an event.

Upcoming Mentor Opportunities:

Visual Arts Day , March 8 10:00-3:00– this event is held to highlight student artwork in the public schools.  LabSpace will be participating and providing art materials for students to design a creation that mentors will scan and import as a sprite into Scratch.  We’ll then program the Sprite and import it into a big collaborative art project in Scratch that we’ll be projecting during the event.  This was a huge hit last year, but is time intensive for each piece of student art.  You will need to bring a water bottle and any snack/food you’d need during the event.  Shifts available are: 9:30-11:30, 11:30-1:30, 1:30-3:30.  We appreciate any time you can help.  Parents, if you’d like to help at this event, we’d love to have you too!

Robot Parade, April 11 and 12

Mentors make Robot Parade possible!   You know how to program and build robots.  You’ll get lots of experience troubleshooting all the things that can go wrong, you’ll help with ideas for floats, you can help with set up and clean up.  This is a super fun event that takes lots of help to make it possible.

  • Fridays, 5:30-7:00 March, 21, 28, and April 4 Junior Girl Scout Robot Lab- we need 2 or 3 mentors who can help lead Girl Scouts through the building and programming process. They will have 3 sessions (and extra time on April 11 if needed) to build and program a robot for the parade.  If you have Mindstorms experience, we’d love your help.  If you are a Girl Scout with Mindstorms experience, please consider this opportunity!
  • Friday, April 11 4:30-6:30 -mentoring for those needing help with their parade robots or floats.  Students will drop in as they can.  You will be helping to troubleshoot any problems they are having.  Also, during this time we’ll be setting up tables and getting things ready in the hall for parade the next day.
  • Saturday, April 12 9:00-3:30- From 9:00-10:00 we’ll be finishing the set up in the hallway.  The parade route will need to be taped.  10:00-11:30- testing robots.  Student robots must make it around the parade route twice with no issues before getting their flags.  11:30-12:00-LabSpace closed for lunch, 12:00-2:00 Robot parade, robot petting zoo, Helias Robotics exhibits.   2:00-3:00 – talk with students and help them celebrate their robots, social time.  3:00-3:30 – Clean up.
