  • May 29, 2021, CDT
    1:00 pm CDT - 1:45 pm CDT

This is a live, online event with a limit of 9 per class.

30 minute workshop

Tuition: $5
Learn about coding as you create a digital story and bring it to life with code.  You’ll use  a cool programming language called Scratch, Jr. Scratch, Jr is a fun language available free online and was developed for children ages 5-7. You can read more about it here: https://www.scratchjr.org/
Before we meet, download Scratch, Jr to a tablet, iPad or phone. It would be good to have 1 device for Zoom and one for Scratch, Jr. That way, you’ll be able to see the teacher’s screen and follow along.
We will complete the requirements for Badge 3 at this workshop.

Let’s program your first video game! Ages 9+ We’ll learn the basics of making a video game by creating our own maze style game.
We’ve found that video game design works great as an online class! Students can share their screens with the teacher and teachers can share with students. Because classes are kept small (usually between 4-7 students) there is plenty of time to ask questions and get to know each other. This will be a fun way to earn your Junior Coding for Good: Badge 2.
This class will meet via Zoom. An invitation will be sent out a couple of days before class starts. You do not have to be a Girl Scout to take this class. Badge 2 can be taken before Badge 1.
MultiMedia Fusion 2.5 will be our game design program. The free trial version is very good. Here is a download link: https://www.clickteam.com/clickteam-fusion-2-5. They are also offering the full version for free through the end of August at which point that license will expire.
Please have your software downloaded before class. We’re happy to help if you need it, just let us know.

  • Daisy Robotics Badge 2-June 10 11:00 Central
    June 10, 2021, CDT
    11:00 am CDT - 11:45 am CDT

Tuition: $6   45 minute workshop

Let’s explore what parts a robot has. How does it move? Wheels? Crawler Tracks? Legs? What is a motor? What are sensors?
We’ll spend time exploring sound sensors using the Arduino Science Journal app. First, we’ll build a musical instrument using 2 pencils, rubber bands, and a box with a hole on top (a tissue box would be perfect), and several rubber bands of different shapes (they’ll need to be big enough to go all the way around the box.
The Arduino Science Journal App is a free app. You’ll need to download it to a phone or tablet before class (there are more sensors on a phone, if you’d like to explore others). You can read about the app here: https://www.arduino.cc/education/science-journal
You will complete the requirements for this badge.  The badge is not included.
